Thomas Noreila

CEO & Founder

Project planning and artistic direction for restoration projects.

My journey in building conservation began in the early 2000s with the relocation of a historic village school from Ilmajoki to the shores of Lake Tuusula. At the same time, I started my apprenticeship under the renowned building conservation master Leif Slotte. My passion for craftsmanship, however, began much earlier—before I even started school, my grandfather taught me how to use a wood lathe in his workshop.

Since then, I have been involved in more than 400 restoration projects and have led over half a million working hours dedicated to the conservation of historic buildings.

Alongside my role as Managing Director, I work with project planning and am responsible for Trähus’ artistic direction and restoration philosophy.

One of my particular areas of expertise is period architecture and historically appropriate design. Together with the other specialists at Trähus, I help our clients define and curate restoration projects that respect the architectural character of each building while creating beautiful and functional environments.

I continue to carry out numerous building inspections every year, helping owners of historic buildings develop restoration projects that are practical, sustainable and built to last.

Photography is one of my greatest interests outside work, and Trähus’ Instagram posts are inspired by the people, buildings and craftsmanship I encounter in our daily work.

Best, Thomas
